Tears of the Kingdom – How to Get To Sky Islands
Sky Islands fill the sky of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and this walkthrough shares how you can get to them
Sky Islands are some of the most extraordinary locations to check out while playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We first begin our adventure by exploring the Great Sky Island, then we have to return to Hyrule Kingdom, and walk on the ground, looking up longingly at those gorgeous ruins circling the skies.
Thankfully, there are many ways to revisit them and explore new ones that crop up while uncovering the many locations on the surface of Hyrule. Not every method to get to a Sky Island is foolproof, and it does require a lot of creativity, but these are some of our favorite ways to get back to the Sky Islands and start exploring them in Tears of the Kingdom.
The Best Ways to Get To Sky Islands in Tears of the Kingdom
You spend the first few hours in Tears of the Kingdom on a massive Sky Island called Great Sky Island. This location serves as a tutorial area for you to explore, learn the basics of the game, and prepare yourself for the much larger open world awaiting you. Because you start at this location, reaching it is not a problem. However, the other Sky Islands that you can find take a bit more effort and some creativity.
How to Use Recall to Get To Sky Islands in TotK
The Recall ability has become one of our favorite ways to get to Sky Islands, mainly because it involves finding a recently fallen chunk of ruin, and riding it back up to the stars. The Recall ability was one of the showcased abilities in the early Tears of the Kingdom trailers and takes the same method to rocket back up.
How it works is you track down a chunk of ruins that have recently fallen or one with which you can use your Ultrahand ability. After you’ve found one out in the wild, jump on top of it, and then use Recall to rocket back up to the sky, shooting you into the air. This won’t take you straight up to a Sky Island, but it should help reach one of the smaller ones, giving you a chance to explore some closer to the ground in TotK.
Using a Zonai Rocket to Get To Sky Islands in TotK
One of the more straightforward ways is to find a Zonai rocket, which you can find throughout Tears of the Kingdom. These are a great way to shoot you straight into the air, so long as you have a powerful enough Zonai charge to keep it working. If you do, you should be able to reach high up into the sky, and you glide down to the nearest Sky Island of your choice.
If Rockets are not your choice, there’s always the option of going with a Hot Air Balloon or using fans to shoot yourself up into the air. These are all good, but it does come down to the size of your Zonai Battery, or how many of the extra Zonai Batteries you have in your inventory.
Using Skyview Towers to Get To Sky Islands in TotK
Another of our favorite methods is to propel ourselves into the skies of Hyrule using Skyview Towers. These iconic locations help you map out Hyrule, uncover any unknown locations, and share essential points of interest you need to track down.
Any time you visit these locations, you can launch yourself into the air, and it gives you a great view of everything in TotK, making it easy to track down any Sky Islands you find in the air. Unfortunately, you’ll always go up the exact location, so you may need to plan your direction and how much Stamina you have to reach certain areas.
