Tears of the Kingdom – How To Get More Heart Containers

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players can expand their Heart Containers by completing Shrines for Light of Blessing.

Your health in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is represented by several Heart Containers at the upper-left portion of your screen. This shows how many hit-points you have on Link, and if these hit zero, Link will fall unconscious, and it will be the end of the game, forcing you to restart at the most recent checkpoint.

When you start playing the game, you only have three Heart Containers, but you can begin earning more as you progress through the main story and continue exploring. You can use a specific method to earn more, giving you access to more hit points. This guide covers how to get more Heart Containers in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Where To Find More Heart Containers in Tears of the Kingdom

Shrines & Light of Blessings

Similar to how you acquired additional Heart Containers in Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom follows a similar process where you’ll need to track down the many shrines scattered throughout the game. These shrines are full of difficult challenges and puzzles for you to solve, providing you with wonderful rewards at the end.

Upon completing each shrine, players will receive a single Light of Blessing. And like in BotW, players will need four Light of Blessings to redeem a single Heart Container or portion of a Stamina Wheel. But where do you turn in blessings?

Temples

Another similar method to Breath of the Wild is by completing main story quests. In BotW, every Divine Beast that was overcome would reward the player with a Heart Container – no Spirit Orbs required.

In TotK, players can receive a Heart Container by defeating the boss at the end of each of the four templesWater, Fire, Wind, & Lightning.

Where to Find More Goddess Statues in Tears of the Kingdom

Don’t worry about returning to the Temple if you want to, as there are Statues scattered about Hyrule Kingdom as well. One of the first you’re likely to find is in the Lookout Landing Emergency Shelter beside the map table.

Another Goddess Statue lives in the center of Kakariko Village, surrounded by a shallow pond. The village itself is in the southeastern portion of Central Hyrule, in the Necluda region.

Another Goddess Statue rests in a nook filled with snow in Rito Village in the snowy Hebra Mountains in the northwestern portion of Hyrule. You’ll find it just as you enter the village itself.

Based on what we see at the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom, you can only earn 20 Maximum Hearts, which means you can locate 17 Heart Containers during your playthrough.

There are alternative ways to expand your Heart Container total beyond your maximum amount through food, but these are limited and go away after you take damage. Eating these foods is a good idea if you’re fighting formidable enemies, but any Heart Container you obtain from a Goddess Statue is permanent.
