Star Wars: Republic Commando coming to Switch and PS4 this April

Squad up.

It may not be a new Star Wars game, but it sure is one of the best. The cult classic PC and Xbox title Star Wars: Republic Commando is being resurrected by Lucasfilm and its original developer Aspyr. However, instead of a remaster or any similar renewal, the game is instead being ported to two new platforms. This April, Star Wars fans will be able to play Republic Commando on both the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4.

A post on the PlayStation Blog from Mallie Rust, a marketing specialist at Aspyr, includes some details on the upcoming Star Wars: Republic Commando port. Apparently, Star Wars fans have been asking for this game incessantly. “Trust me, we’ve read many, many, many tweets and comments requesting it,” Rust said.

When it debuts on the PS4 and Switch on April 6, Star Wars: Republic Commando will be largely the same. In the same PlayStation Blog post, Rust says that the game will come with modernized controls to fit the DualShock 4. It’s not clear how well that control scheme will port over to the Switch, although it would be surprising if there were any discrepancies there. Star Wars: Republic Commando will also be playable on the PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility.

There is one notable omission from this post though — multiplayer. Republic Commando had both single-player and multiplayer modes. As of right now, whether multiplayer will return in these ports is up in the air.

Thankfully, we do have a price for Star Wars: Republic Commando, at least for the Switch. On Nintendo’s platform, the classic Star Wars title will run customers just $14.99. That price is likely to be the same on the PS4 and PS5.
