The post-apocalyptic zombie game is a Microsoft Store exclusive on PC as of now, while it’s also playable on Xbox One. On both the platforms, you can get it for free if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, as it’s been in the library since day one last year.

The Steam page also features a message from the Seattle-based developer, now part of the Xbox Game Studios team, where it states that “Undead Labs is proud to present our best-ever vision of the zombie apocalypse, coming to Steam in early 2020.”

Also, Undead Labs shared that “some wild surprises” are on their way “in the coming months,” so it looks like there’s an important announcement in preparation at the studio. It could be a brand new additional content or even a sequel to State of Decay 2.

Microsoft recently acquired the development team and stated that it wants the studio to be a State of Decay 3 team”. That wouldn’t come as a surprise, because in late June 2018, it was revealed that State of Decay 2 has reached more than 3 million players.

In our review, we claimed that “State of Decay 2 is a good game that lacks a bit of ambition when it comes to delivering certain things such as multiplayer and other core mechanics that could’ve been smoothed up.” The game currently has an average score of 69 out of 100 on Metacritic.
