Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has sold 3.8 million copies, according to recent financial reports.
According to recent financial reports from Kadokawa, the parent company of From Software, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has sold 3.8 million copies as of June 30. The game was already well on it’s way to passing the Dark Souls 2 series for sales, racking up two million sales just ten days after release.
Despite the intense difficulty of the game, the sales figures imply that people were not put off by this and were happy to engage with From Software’s challenging action game. Part of the success might be down to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice being a little more straight forward than many From Software games. While the game is indeed quite tough, the fact that you only really use a single sword throughout the game means people can focus solely on mastering that aspect of the combat system. The shallower RPG systems also make the game a little more approachable for many people.
The sales data is almost sure to please Activision, who had already expressed their happiness with the game sales when it hit two million. As such, we can more than likely expect a sequel in the future, due to the companies heavy use of the word “franchise” when talking about the game.
From Software are currently working on Elden Ring, a fantasy RPG that features writing from George R.R. Martin, author of the Song of Ice and Fire series. Elden Ring was rumored to be shown off to gaming press at the upcoming Gamescom, but it would seem this may not be the case. A confirmed lineup from Bandai Namco for the convention did not contain any information about Elden Ring.
As for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the game is reportedly a complete tale, and From Software do not plan on bringing out any DLC for the title. This might also have had an impact on sales numbers, as people were happy to buy in knowing that no further DLC costs or Season Pass would be coming down the line.
