Obsidian Entertainment, the original creators behind the Fallout franchise, was acquired by Xbox Game Studios last year. It looks like it is starting to ramp up production on a brand new title. The company still needs to release The Outer Worlds, which looks a lot like Fallout in space.

The studio’s lead narrative designer, Kate Dollarhyde, shared on Twitter about looking for a brand new lead narrative designer for its next project. The new lead narrative designer would likely be handling the next project’s story.

Obsidian has worked on multiple projects at the same time in the past, such as South Park: The Stick of Truth and Pillars of Eternity. The people at Obsidian have juggled multiple projects before, so those who are focusing on The Outer Worlds release and post-release content should have everything under control, despite another team working elsewhere.

That something different is, at least from what we learn from the tweet by Dollarhyde, another role-playing game with a very ambitious scope.

The description details how someone must have “3+ yrs experience, one shipped game w/ branching dialog, v. knowledgeable abt RPG design conventions”. Given the description, many can speculate about Obsidian’s next project, but it won’t be a multiplayer game, or from an unexpected genre the studio is not familiar in constructing.

The Outer Worlds releases on October 25, 2019, for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Obsidian’s next project is likely to be its first Xbox and Windows exclusive game from the studio.
