If you’re a fan of old-school adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle or Broken Sword, then here’s a pleasant surprise for you. Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure, “a comedy cosmic horror” is releasing on Aug 7.

Gibbous is the debut title of the three-person Transylvanian studio, Stuck In Attic. The project was successfully kickstarted back in 2016; Gibbous is a hand-painted and traditionally animated 2D adventure game. It features the Lovecraftian Old Ones, a talking cat, and a guest appearance from The Witcher himself, Doug Cockle

With over 70 fully voiced characters, players take control of Detective Don R. Ketype on his hunt for the evil Necronomicon and the librarian Buzz Kerwan. Kerwan accidentally used the Necronomicon to give his cat, the aptly named Kitteh, the ability to speak. There’s a global mystery to solve and strange cults to deal with, and judging from the trailer; it’s going to be a beautiful journey.

Gibbous was born out of the unnatural union of comedy, cosmic horror, and local flavor – we’re born and raised in Transylvania, and our Lovecraftian world reflects that. We’ve hand-crafted an adventure game that tackles eldritch abominations with warmth, candor, and a pinch of the absurd. Plus – there’s a talking black cat. Everything’s better with a talking black cat,” said Liviu Boar, creative director at Stuck In Attic.
