So Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is getting an exciting successor.

During tonight’s Game Awards broadcast, Wizards of the Coast and Tuque Games announced Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, which debuts fall 2020 on consoles and PC.

The game introduces a legendary character from the tabletop series, Drizzt Do’Urden, alongside the Companions of the Hall, who will appear in a D&D video game for the first time. It’ll be based around the Forgotten Realms campaign.

Jeff Hattem, head of Tuque games, talked about his excitement in working on this new property. “From the moment I founded Tuque, our team has known that we wanted to bring our passion for D&D and creativity to the Dark Alliance series. We’re taking players on an epic journey through the harsh and violent Icewind Dale, where they’re going to need to use their wits, their weapons, and their party members to help them survive the iconic monsters we’re going to send their way.”

Despite what the over-the-top trailer below presents, the game will feature traditional action/RPG elements along the lines of previous Baldur’s Gate games. But it will also bring co-op, allowing four players to jump in and play. Alas, you’ll have to decide who in your group gets to play Drizzt, while the others play Catti-Brie, Bruenor, and Wulfgar.

The game revolves around an original story. The trailer didn’t note what that was, but you can expect some epic enemy encounters.

It’s good to see the series back, even if it’s in a whole new light. But the D&D label could give it greater exposure than anyone could’ve expected. Enjoy the trailer below.
