Dreams had a quite an unusual launch for a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Mainly because it’s the first game to ever launch in early access on the platform. However, this is a clue regarding Sony and Media Molecule’s vision for the game, one where the title sticks around for at least 10 years.

“We have a 10-year vision for Dreams to keep growing with the community,” said Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Interaction Entertainment Worldwide Studios, during an interview at the Tokyo Game Show 2019.

Yoshida supports this vision due it being one of his “favorite projects ever,” so it has the backing of the executive team at a considerably high level.

It’s worth noting we’re drawing closer to the end of the console generation. This statement means we could get to play Dreams on the upcoming PlayStation 5 as well. PlayStation 5 has already been said to be backward compatibility, which means you’ll be able to play PlayStation 4 games on the next-gen console when it releases.

However, there’s a chance we could get a port on PlayStation 5 to make it run natively on the latest Sony system. This function would allow Media Molecule to take advantage of the more powerful hardware.

We don’t know if Sony is taking this in consideration but when you have a “10-year vision” that’s something you’ll sure look into sooner or later.
