A new Digimon game is coming in 2019, and will be the first Digimon game on a main Nintendo console in nearly 15 years.
The new game, Digimon Survive, was announced in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu and translated by YouTuber BlackKite. The game will be coming some time next year, in Japan at least, to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
According to the translated information Survive is a tactical RPG incorporating both 3D and 2D art elements in the world. The tactical element mostly relates to the battles, which will be position and strategy-based rather than a traditional turn-based design.
The player will take the role of a teenager with a Digimon companion. That companion will be an Agumon, the main Digimon from the original and beloved anime series.
There’s a Digimon event on July 29 where more information on the game will apparently be revealed.
Core Digimon games have been reserved for PlayStation consoles for the most part in recent years, with the last Digimon World and Digimon Story games released on both PS4 and PlayStation Vita. While some games have come out for the Nintendo DS, the Switch release of Digimon Survive will be the first game on a core Nintendo console since 2005’s Digimon World 4. That game came out for Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2.
For more information on the game, make sure to check out the YouTube livestream on July 29. Even though the game is pretty far away, fans will be eager to get a first glimpse at the new title.
