Tower defense, mobile spin-off Dead Island Survivors has reignited the interest of video gamers in the zombie based franchise, although the series has been lacking new main chapters for quite a long time now.

You might recall that, back in 2014, a sequel to Dead Island, Dead Island 2, was announced to be in the making at Yager.

The developer of the much appreciated sleeper hit Spec Ops: The Line, a third person shooter that was very heavy on story, was hired because the original creator of the IP, Techland, was busy on its own zombie FPS Dying Light.

Anyway, because of reasons that weren’t disclosed, publisher Deep Silver and the studio parted ways, even leading Yager to bankruptcy. Then, the project was handed to Sumo Digital, the UK based contractor which is also working on Crackdown 3 and Sonic kart games.

Since the title is in the hands of Sumo Digital, we have never seen it in action; the only thing left is stuff we saw back in the Yager days. In 2017, it was confirmed to still be in development, and now we have new signs of life.

From the official Twitter account, Dead Island 2 has been confirmed to be “still in development and we will share more on this at a later stage,” although the E3 2018 was a big opportunity for a re-reveal and has been once again missed.

The game was announced for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but at this point in the console generation lifecycle it remains to be seen whether they’ll make it in time to launch it for those platforms or we’ll play it on future gen hardware.
