Basically out of nowhere, an update for Call of Duty: Black Ops III released last week. Curiously enough, that update preceded by a few days the first (un)official teaser and rumor for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (or Black Ops IIII, as it is apparently being named).

This isn’t the first time Activision and Treyarch act like that, as Call of Duty: Black Ops III was teased in a quite similar way, with an update shaking things up in the previous Call of Duty entry (specifically, a SnapChat QR code was added in a Black Ops II map).

From the looks of it, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is being teased in a similar way. The last update just added a snow version of the Redwood map (Redwood Snow, indeed), where license plates on the trucks are now different in comparison with the original – they’ve been changed with the date David Mason joined the military.

There’s a Reddit thread about the full theory, which considering who were talking about is much more than a possibility now. Apparently, several changes have been applied to the campaign, even though at this stage those haven’t been discovered yet.

Call of Duty games are usually announced in May, but with these teasers popping up as early as March there’s a chance Activision and Treyarch might be disclosing the first details sooner.
