Resident Evil 2 Remake Outsells the Original, Topping Five Million Copies

Lots of gamers are into Mr. X’s shenanigans — and it shows when it comes to the sales of the Resident Evil 2 remake.
Following today’s announcement for the Resident Evil 3 remake, Capcom confirmed in a press release that RE2 sold over five million copies worldwide since its release. That beats out the sales of the original RE3: Nemesis, which sold 4.96 million copies since its debut on the first PlayStation platform back in January 1998.
That’s a massive feat, and it shows the staying power of the survival horror game from earlier this year. It also bodes well for Resident Evil 3, which arrives this April with the online multiplayer game Project Resistance included in the package.
It helps that Resident Evil 2 saw both solid reviews and strong word-of-mouth from players. The game currently holds a 93 percent rating on Metacritic for Xbox One; and a 91 percent rating for Playstation 4.
If you haven’t discovered what’s easily one of this year’s finest games, you still have time. It’s currently on sale on both Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store, going for $19.79 for the standard edition and $23.09 for the Deluxe Edition, which comes with bonus costumes for Leon and Claire.
Congrats to Capcom on getting this impressive sales record. Here’s hoping that Resident Evil 3 follows suit in a few months, and more remakes come after that. We are curious to see what Code Veronica looks like with this new engine.
