A few weeks ago, we informed you about Shawn Layden leaving under mysterious circumstances from his role as head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. It’s the organization that includes all the first-party teams at PlayStation, like Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, and several more.

Today, we finally have the first information about who’s going to take that role in the future: it’s Hermen Hulst, managing director at Guerrilla Games. Hulst has led Guerrilla in the transition from being a solely FPS studio to one capable of building substantial open-world RPG.

“Hermen is a European who will be taking one of the major offices at PlayStation,” SIE CEO Jim Ryan said, via GamesIndustry. “I think everybody in Europe should be thrilled and happy and proud that that is happening.

“Hermen is one of the most effective and well-respected leaders in the video game industry. He is a passionate advocate for the teams he leads and understands how to empower creative talent to build great experiences,” Ryan added. “I have no doubt Hermen can lead our teams to deliver compelling and diverse experiences at a steady cadence.”

“I have worked closely with PlayStation and the entire Worldwide Studios family since 2001, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the creative talent and ambitious ideas within the network of studios across the US, Europe, and Japan,” Hulst said.

Shuhei Yoshida is also leaving his role as President at the Worldwide Studios. However, he’ll still be at Sony nurturing smaller external studios and developers as part of a new initiative from the Japanese platform owner.
