According to a new rumor, Apple and Valve are reportedly cooperating for a new partnership in the AR business range. The partnership has just been rumored, and surely opens more opportunities for the two companies and in particular Valve that could extend its work on new platforms.

As shared by MacRumors, Valve is very active in the business of virtual reality and has cooperated with HTC in the past for HTC Vive with SteamVR technology, but has most importantly just released its first VR headset, Valve Index.

Apple has been rumored to have “temporarily stopped developing AR/VR headsets,” and even disbanded the team working on the technology last May, so it makes sense that the label works with some external partners in order to keep having a presence in the area.

“Apple reportedly has partnered with US game developer Valve to develop AR head-mounted display devices, which may be released in the second half of 2020 at the earliest, with Taiwan’s ODMs Quanta Computer and Pegatron said to handle the assembly job, according to industry sources,” says DigiTimes.

“Tim Cook believes that AR can make digital content become part of the user’s world and will be as popular as smartphones with consumers,” and this is why Apple has skipped other opportunities to be in the virtual reality range.

It’s nice that such a big and wealthy company like Apple goes to a gaming label like Valve in order to expand its horizons and work on such an innovative tech as augmented reality. Hopefully this will also mean something meaty for the intellectual properties of the Half-Life makers.
