We’re learned Doom Eternal is getting pushed back to March 20, 2020, instead of releasing this year.
Doom Eternal has gotten pushed back from its initial Nov. 22 release of this year to next year on March 20, 2020.
We receive the information from a press release email sent out to several outlets. The release for the delay is the developers, id Software, want to provide players with the best Doom experience they can create. To make sure this happens, they’re going to need a little more time to work on the game.
Here’s the official email below:
Throughout the development of DOOM Eternal, our goal has been to deliver a game that exceeds your greatest expectations across the board.
To make sure we’re delivering the best experience — for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish — we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020.
In addition to shifting the DOOM Eternal launch date, we’ve made a couple other changes we wanted you to know about:
Invasion Mode, which will allow you to enter another player’s game as a playable demon, will release as a free update shortly after launch.
DOOM Eternal for Nintendo Switch will release after the other platforms. We will announce that date in the future.
DOOM 64 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in addition to Nintendo Switch. We are adding DOOM 64 as a pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal on all platforms, so you’ll be able to download and play this classic game, for free, just for pre-ordering DOOM Eternal. DOOM 64 will be released on March 20, 2020, on all platforms.
We are grateful to every DOOM fan for your dedication and support – we can’t wait to rip-and-tear right alongside you.
We’re going to have to wait until next year to jump into the game, along with DOOM 64. When Bethesda first showed Doom Eternal during last year’s E3, there was general excitement for a new Doom title, but in general, the enthusiasm for it had slightly flicked out. The multiplayer modes and the combat seemed like exciting concepts, but overall, it was mild.
Hopefully, the delay gives id Software more time to work on its title. Players greatly enjoyed returning to Doom in 2016’s new title. The fine-tuning id Software does over the next few months could set the tone, and potentially generate more pre-orders.
Doom Eternal releases on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia on March 20, 2020.
