We were expecting a brand new PlayStation 4 exclusive game to be revealed at the latest State of Play, and Sony ultimately delivered.
While we’ve been treated thus far by exclusive action-adventure open world game, this time around things are a bit different, though.
The game in question is Predator: Hunting Grounds, an asymmetrical multiplayer title coming from Illfonic, the creators of Friday 13 The Game.
While we don’t have many details about how the game will play, we’re told it’s still very early in the making and will indeed release on PS4/PS4 Pro in 2020.
Despite the release date being so distant in the PS4 lifecycle, we don’t have clues about a possible PlayStation 5 cross-gen launch, and as a multiplayer experience, it would take advantage of the massive PlayStation 4 userbase to have lots of players since day one.
Anyway, the gameplay loop will feel particularly familiar if you’ve played Friday 13 The Game or other popular titles of the same genre.
“One group of players will control members of an elite Fireteam who pack state-of-the-art conventional firepower, from shotguns and SMGs to sniper rifles and more,” the studio said.
“Meanwhile, one player will control the Predator: a stealthy, acrobatic killing machine bristling with exotic alien technology such as the infamous Plasmacaster.”
The game is being worked on by Illfonic in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios and Fox, so this is why it’s exclusive to PlayStation.
It’s also worth noting that Sony had already told us it wanted to get bigger in the multiplayer space, so this partnership surely doesn’t come as a huge surprise.
More details are coming in the “near future,” we’re told, so expect the first look on gameplay soon. In the meantime, you can check a mood-setting CGI teaser below.
