More good news for Microsoft supporters as the newest first-party studio The Initiative has hired Sunset Overdrive game director.

Drew Murray has worked for ten years at Insomniac Games, serving as a lead designer for Resistance 3 (he’s been on the series since its inception), and as a regular designer on Ratchet & Clank.

He’s left the company in 2015, so ironically he hasn’t worked on the latest blockbuster from Ted Price’s software house, Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Murray will work as a “developer” at The Initiative, at least based on his LinkedIn profile, although a more specific role could come shortly.

Interestingly, people have been asking for a Sunset Overdrive sequel for ages, and now they have a chance to have its director ‘in house’ for the next IP from a Microsoft dev team.

The Initiative was revealed back at E3 2018 as a new studio directed by former Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ Darrell Gallagher.

We don’t know what the team will be working on, but it’s just being formed at the moment and at E3 Phil Spencer hinted at a possible return of an historic intellectual property from the portfolio of Xbox.

Sure enough, the developer is being pumped with a lot of talent lately, with Red Dead Redemption’s technical director recently hired among the others.
