Yes, Final Fantasy 16 is coming to PC, but work on the PC port only started on the day of the game’s release on PS5. In the lead up to the official launch, the development team pulled back further and further on promises of a PC port until they reached this status. Based on this information, we wouldn’t expect to see a PC port of the game coming to Steam or any other PC marketplace until 2024 at the earliest.

Initially, it was said that Final Fantasy 16 had a six-month limited-time exclusive title for PlayStation 5. This would have meant that the game could have released for PC as soon as December 2023/January 2024. However, given the information we now have, we know this isn’t the case. In the past, Square Enix has managed to adhere to fairly short turnarounds with Final Fantasy game PC ports. Given the incredible scale of the latest entry though, it would be better for everyone if the developer took its time to create a solid port that PC fans won’t feel let down by when it does finally release.

Prior to the game’s release, Producer Naoki Yoshida suggested that those who truly want to experience the game soon should purchase it for PlayStation 5. Square Enix wants to commit Final Fantasy 16 to other platforms eventually. However, as we’ve covered above, work on the PC port was only started from the PS5 version’s release, that we know of. There could well be other versions in the works, but until Square Enix outlines what they are it’s impossible to know when they’ll be released.
