As always, there will be a new Season Pass, new quests, activities, and missions to complete, and plenty of new things to do.

Season 13 start and end date

The new season will begin on February 9, but we do not know the possible end date at this time.

Upcoming Changes

Season 13 will see plenty of armor and weapons being reissued to combat the fact that both the Moon and the Dreaming City are pretty much dead locations for veteran players.

  • Reissued Dreaming City Reverie Dawn and Moon Dreambane armor.
    • These will also drop with high stats when earned in Shattered Throne or Pit of Heresy.
    • The final chest in Pit of Heresy will no longer drop a fully Masterworked Dreambane armor piece.
    • Instead, the Dreambane armor piece that drops will have 7 armor energy and is guaranteed to drop with at least a +16 in two different stats and higher stats overall.
    • Dreambane class items will not drop from this chest.
  • Reissued 4 weapons for Dreaming City with new Perk Pools.
    • Waking Vigil, Sleepless, Vouchsafe, and Retold Tale.
    • Dreaming City weapons that drop in the Shattered Throne dungeon can roll with perks that are unavailable from drops from other reward sources.
  • Reissued 4 weapons for the Moon with new Perk Pools.
    • Premonition (Pit of Heresy only), Heretic, Blasphemer, and Apostate.
    • Weapons that drop in the Pit of Heresy dungeon can roll with perks that are unavailable from drops from other reward sources.
  • Expanding Lost Sector Legend and Master rotation to 4 Moon Sectors.
    • K1 Logistics, K1 Communication, K1 Crew Quarters, and K1 Revelation.

Rewards for core activities are also going to be changing. Tokens will be a thing of the past, so you can hand them all in before the end of Season 12. From now on, core activities rewards will look like this:

  • Rank 4: 3x Upgrade Modules
  • Rank 7: 3x Enhancement Cores
  • Rank 10: Seasonal Ritual Shader (changes to 3x Enhancement Cores after resetting your rank)
  • Rank 13: 2x Enhancement Prisms
  • Rank 16: Seasonal Ritual Emblem (changes to 2x Enhancement Prisms after resetting your rank)
  • Reset Reward: Ascendant Shard (changes to Exotic Engram after resetting your rank)

In worse news, many weapons are going to be sunset, so you might need to say goodbye to some of your favorites. Thankfully, Nightfalls and the Exotic Kiosk are both getting new loot, so that is something to work towards. Whisper of the Worm, Felwinter’s Lie, and Outbreak Perfected will be in the Kiosk, while The Swarm, The Palindrome, and Shadow Price will be rewarded from Nightfalls.

Season Challenges

Bounties are a problem that Bungie is hoping to solve in Season 13. Players are tired of endlessly chasing Bounties, and Bungie is sure that Seasonal Challenges will provide a new way for them to meaningfully engage with the game on a regular basis.

You can find the details we know so far about Season Challenges below:

  • Every week, for the first 10 weeks of a Season, between 3 and 10 new Challenges appear automatically for players.
    • Some of the Challenges deal with the Seasonal content.
    • Others push players to complete strikes, Gambit, and the Crucible, or to focus on non-activity focused Destiny rituals, like gaining Power, unlocking Seasonal Artifact mods, or improving guns and armor.
  • These Challenges can only be completed once per account, but once they become available, these Challenges can be completed at any time before the end of the Season, and do not need to be started or picked up from a vendor.
    • As an example, if a player doesn’t play for weeks 2 through 4, they can return on week 5 and have all of those Challenges waiting for them!
  • Completing each Challenge awards XP, contributing to your Season Pass ranks.
    • Other rewards could be Bright Dust, Seasonal currency, or other interesting items.

Bright Dust Changes

Bright Dust has been another area of conflict in Destiny 2, with many players feeling that the paid items in Eververse get more attention than the items that are covered by the price of the expansions and Season Pass.

The new Season Challenges will reward anywhere from 75 to 300 Bright Dust each, and will include an end-of-Season Bright Dust bonus for those who complete almost all the Challenges. This will be worth 4000 Bright Dust.

Story details

These are pretty thin on the ground at the moment, but will almost certain continue the tale of Xivu Arath. While this season centered around stopping her ability to amass a army, it would be extremely disappointing if that was it, and we never go to throw down with Xinu herself.

We expect Bungie to start releasing story details soon, so stay tuned for updates.
