Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone: How to Unlock the TR-76 Geist Assault Rifle

The TR-76 Geist is a hard-hitting Assault Rifle that aims to shake up the stale mix of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2's long-range meta.

Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2 Season 6 has added two shiny new shootable weapons and one spiffy new melee option as part of the usual Battle Pass offerings. It’s a predictable formula at this point, but considering last season’s weapons didn’t do much to change anything, the TR-76 Geist could be exactly what the Assault Rifle category has been missing.

If you’re a fan of the slower, heavy-hitting options in that class (and growing tired of the Kastov-762), TR-76 Geist Assault Rifle will be one for you. Unlocking TR-76 Geist Assault Rifle in Warzone & Modern Warfare isn’t too complicated if you know where to look, but given that it’s attached to the complex Battle Pass system, we’ve got you covered if you’re not sure how to get started.

As is standard fare, the TR-76 Geist is located in slot F7 of the Battle Pass. When it comes to seasonal weapons, it’s always better to save your tokens and buy your way directly to the gun instead of letting things unlock naturally as you go. If you’re itching for something new, this will save you so much time.

If you’re unsure if this particular weapon is right for you, the developers had high praise for it ahead of release. “The TR-76 Geist packs one hell of a punch, dealing solid damage with a moderate rate of fire. Its compact design supports manageable recoil, too, making for a rock-solid foundation before accounting for Gunsmith.”

As with most ARs, though, it’s important to remember that its close-range game will have some serious issues. TR-76 Geist is the type of weapon suited for holding down angles, trapping enemies at chokepoints, and becoming a human turret. It’s not quite as slow as an LMG, but you won’t be Speedy Gonzalez out there either.

The devs also doubled down on its high damage profile, and if anything is going to move the needle away from the Kastov before Modern Warfare 3, the Geist might be our last hope.

We’ve got an in-depth TR-76 Geist loadout guide for both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, but if you’re after something simple that you can try out in either game, give this one a shot.

The TY-LR8 Barrel is a core piece for this gun and is featured in both of those other guides. It’s almost magical how it fixes the recoil for every Assault Rifle. That’s bolstered by the FSS Sharkfin 90 and Scout-LD Stock Pad, too. You’ll have no problem hitting your shots if you rock both of these.

We went with the AIM OP V4 here as it’s a versatile optic, and you can tune it for speed in Multiplayer or distance in Warzone. That’s strictly preference, though, so use whatever is comfortable for you.

Also, the 45 Round Mag is a must-have for Warzone, but the gun can survive without it in MW2. You can trim it for something else, but it’s a cozy failsafe otherwise.

Is Getting the TR-76 Geist in MW2 & Warzone Worth It?

We believe the TR-76 Geist is totally worth some extra effort if you're looking for a pick me up.

The TR-76 is a free Battle Pass reward, it’s definitely worth your tokens. It may not knock the Kastov out of its cozy position atop the Warzone 2.0 mountain, but it certainly competes with guns like the Cronen Squall as the next best option.

Leveling it up enough to use all of the right attachments can be a time sink, but taking advantage of some Double Weapon XP tokens cuts that problem in half. All in all, this is a totally serviceable gun that has the potential to be a winner down the line. If those other two ARs get nerfed in the mid-season update, it could be mighty handy to have this one ready to rock.

We felt the same way about the TR-76 Geist’s Season 6 cousin, the ISO 9MM SMG, too. Check out that guide if you’re not up to date on its chances to enter the meta.
