According to Bloomberg, Nintendo has started asking developers to work on 4K-ready games for the Nintendo Switch platform. The publication cites sources from the development scene for this new report.
The request has reportedly been made not only to first-party studios but also third-party developers, which should mean we would be somewhat close to the official announcement of the upgraded Switch model.
“Several outside game developers, speaking anonymously as the issue is private, said that Nintendo has asked them to make their games 4K-ready, suggesting a resolution upgrade is on its way,” says the report from Bloomberg.
Interestingly, a resolution upgrade was also mentioned in a previous report from Bloomberg, but was almost a side note, compared to other upgrades made possible by the new hardware.
These new details would instead show that resolution would be a major selling point for the upgraded Switch model, perhaps in an attempt to try and compete with the incoming PS5 and Xbox Series X, which are releasing in 2020.
Nintendo is also reported to have “asked its assembly partners to increase the production of its Switch gaming console again,” as the company is said to have raised its production goal to 30 million units for the current fiscal year.
This is 5 million units more than the original 25 million goal set in early August, which has “proven insufficient and assemblers are now operating factories at 120%.”
The newest Nintendo Switch model, tentatively called Pro, would be releasing in early 2021, just a few months away from the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
A hardware revision was just submitted to the United States’ FCC, and that could be some preliminary work before the new model gets revealed.
