The first potential Mega Evolution Pokémon coming to Pokémon Go

Time for a Mega upgrade.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

There have been hints about Mega Evolutions coming to Pokémon Go for quite some time following the lead up to Pokémon Go Fest 2020. During the event, Niantic spoke about it and confirmed it, but also said the team wanted to bring it to the game in a meaningful way. Niantic also confirmed small details surrounding it, such as any Pokémon capable of a Mega Evolution would be able to Mega Evolution. The Charmander you caught at the start of the game could do it. Now, the assets for the feature have come through, and we have a look to potentially see who will receive the first Mega Evolutions.

The datamining group Pokéminers were able to view the assets being pushed by the developers to the game. These are the not the only details regarding Mega Evolution they were able to uncover, such as Mega Energy, timers, and various other new mechanics coming to the feature.

The first Pokémon that will be able to Mege Evolve include:

  • Venusaur
  • Charizard (X and Y)
  • Blastoise
  • Beedrill
  • Pidgeot

When Mega Evolution arrives, these five will serve as the start of a brand new feature. They also include the shiny versions with a unique coloration to them. We also see what a Mega Raid Egg will look like, and the Mega Raid Won symbol will be.

We have confirmed that Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and Beedrill will be receiving Mega Evolutions. Pidgeot, on the other hand, has not been confirmed by Niantic. It could be another Mega Evolution Pokémon players fight in Mega Raids, or it might show up shortly after the initial Mega Evolutions make their debut.

More Pokémon could be pushed before Mega Evolution officially arrives, and we’ll update this guide if this is the case.
