When will Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath be released?

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is coming out for all platforms on May 26. That means PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and PC players will all have access to the new content at the same time. Anyone who pre-orders Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath before then will receive the Eternal Klash Skin Pack when the DLC is released. The bonus pre-order pack includes new skins for classic characters Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

What’s included in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath?

The first main addition to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is a new chapter to the game’s story. At the end of the Mortal Kombat 11 base game, Liu Kang defeated Kronika, the game’s main antagonist, destroyed her crown, and was prepared to undo the damage she did with her time-warping powers. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath takes place immediately after the events of the final battle, as series villain Shang Tsung appears to warn the heroes of a new danger.

According to Shang Tsung and his companions Fujin and Nightwolf, the world will be destroyed if they try to reset the timeline without the crown, and the only way to prevent it is to send them back in time to keep Kronika’s crown from being destroyed. It’s about as sensible as the plot of Mortal Kombat 11, but the real benefit of the continuing story is the chance to keep battling in a set of new stages.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath’s story will include remakes of the classic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber stages, plus new stages Kronika’s Keep and the RetroKade, the latter of which remixes older arenas with a new twist. While the new stages will be featured in the story mode of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, they’ll also be available to players who don’t buy the DLC via a free update.

As exciting as a whole new story mode is, the new characters coming to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath are at least as much of a reason to pick it up. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will introduce Fujin, Sheeva, and Robocop to Mortal Kombat 11. Fujin (god of wind and brother to Raiden) and Sheeva (four-armed queen of the Shokan) have both appeared in Mortal Kombat games but weren’t playable in Mortal Kombat 11. Now they will be, with a whole new set of powers that focus on controlling opponents with wind for Fujin and grappling for Sheeva.

Robocop is obviously a newcomer, and probably the DLC character that’s going to get the most attention. He’s voiced by Peter Weller, the actor who originally played Robocop in the 1987 film, and his in-game model is based on the actor as well. Rather than any mystical power or wrestling prowess, Robocop will rely on his pistol, flamethrower, and other technological tools to fight.

Will there be different editions of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath?

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will launch in three different versions. The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection is for newcomers to the game, featuring Mortal Kombat 11, the Aftermath DLC, and the game’s previous Kombat Pack with new characters and skins.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is also available in a standalone version, or a bundle with the Kombat Pack.
