According to some interesting speculation popped up on ResetEra, there’s a chance that Playtonic might be joining Xbox Game Studios in the foreseeable future. The team is known for its egregious work on the Yooka-Laylee franchise.

Unfortunately for you Banjo fans, the rumor was quickly debunked by Playtonic, which mentioned that it would love to work on the franchise but is not authorized to do so as it is a Microsoft property and it’s not going to be acquired by Xbox Game Studios anytime soon.

The speculation was very well crafted, thanks to ResetEra user Mazi, and reported a series of coincidences that look slightly weird or much inviting, based on your perspective on possibilities of this acquisition to happen anytime soon.

The first hint was that Ed Bryan, former Rare veteran who helped on the design of Yooka-Laylee, has joined Playtonic Games a few days ago. He was the character artist on Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Viva Pinata, and more.

The second hint was that Bryan has shown a pic of a Microsoft bag on Twitter and said that “it’s coming out of retirement” for some reason – not only, the speculation hints, because of him using the bag but also because that bag has the Microsoft logo on it and it could be now time to have it out of the wardrobe.

On top of that, we learned that “Playtonic registered a new company, the PLAYTONIC GAMES DEVELOPMENT LIMITED, out of nowhere on Sept. 17th, 2019,” and that could be some preparatory work on the new unity that could’ve been sold to Microsoft and put into making games for Xbox Game Studios.

So, that’s it, and that was rather interesting to read about when we’re only eleven days from the X019. Matt Booty will be there, and he is ‘the man of acquisitions’ at Microsoft, so it’s likely that he’ll be there for a reason and that the reason in question could be an acquisition reveal.
