Many thought Fable would be making a huge comeback at E3 2019, but that has not happened. Playground Games has been on stage but only to reveal the LEGO DLC releasing today for Forza Horizon 4, and its second team’s project, an open world action RPG, has not been there at all.

During an interview with Eurogamer, the head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty has discussed the game and has seemingly hinted at the fact that it could be revealed at next year’s E3 2020, without shying away when it came to talk about the name of Fable — that’s not officially in the making, remember, just a rumor.

He also said that choices had to be made about which games should have been in the show, which makes it clear that some titles were removed from the presentation and held for a future occasion, that could be, like, November’s X019 or E3 2020.

Question: I get it, you have a big console to market next year and you have to come out then swinging. But I know a lot of Fable fans today who were hoping for a little something…

Matt Booty: [Laughs] Like I said… a lot of great stuff waiting in the wings for next year. Hope to have you back in a year.

Interestingly, he said in another passage of the interview that “there’s a huge process we go through to decide what gets in the show. You can imagine we start with more than we end up with…,” which possibly is all about making sure that you don’t show things too early as it happened with the first we games of Xbox One.

Project Scarlett is releasing in Holiday 2020, and at this stage, it’s safe to state that the next Fable will also run on that console outside of Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
