Death Stranding‘s release date has just been revealed a few hours ago, as it is finally coming on November 8, 2019, on PlayStation 4. We’ve also called it a PlayStation 4 exclusive but it looks like it could not be that at all, as rumors point at launch on PS4 after a short time.

Italian journalist Antonio Fucito, who correctly revealed that the game would be dropping on November 8, 2019, ahead of the official reveal, has indeed shared information about the launch on PC, something he is quite sure about.

In the past, back in the days of the announcement of the game, Hideo Kojima had said he wanted to ship on PC, too, but that news grows old as soon as Sony had a major role in the development as you’ll see below. Recently, at the Tribeca Film Festival, he also refused to answer questions on the matter.

Fucito said over a livestream, which has been reported by ResetEra users that Death Stranding is coming to PC after a period of exclusivity for PlayStation 4 as agreed back in 2015 when Kojima Productions and Sony signed the publishing deal.

The journalist claims he doesn’t know the exact terms of the deal but also that he believes that the release on the PC platform is set to be happening quite soon, about 6 or 12 months after the official launch on PlayStation 4.

“The PS4 cover didn’t have the “Only on PS” label because DS it’s coming to PC at a later date, that’s the deal signed between Kojima and Sony,” he said in the livestream. “The game will be a timed PS4 exclusive and will be available on PC later on (won’t be available on Xbox), I don’t know if it’s 6 or 12 months exclusive.”

We don’t know whether this is true or not. Fucito, someone I’ve known for ages because I am an Italian video games fan for ages, has accomplished to have a good track record when it comes to such information so we could trust what he says, but it’s also worth noting that Sony owns the Death Stranding IP and has funded the entire development.

On top of that, the game is using Guerrilla Games’ graphics engine, the so-called Decima technology, and it is a studio owned by Sony, so it would look weird to see the title release on other platforms, even if that should only be the PC. We’ll update you as soon as more news pop up on the topic.
