Surprise, Joker and a new update will be made available tomorrow to the owners of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the latest entry in the extremely popular Nintendo crossover game. A fighting game series starring Nintendo’s biggest icons, characters from other companies have been made available in the game as well. Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII is a playable character for example.

Joker is the codename for the protagonist in Persona 5, a very popular RPG game owned by Atlus. In the Video Game Awards last December, Nintendo surprised the audience by showcasing a video that revealed Joker would be the first DLC character for Smash Ultimate.

Today, Nintendo finally unveiled footage for Joker, and, probably more shockingly, announced he will be available tomorrow.

Half of the new Nintendo video focuses mostly on showing gameplay footage of Joker, while the other half centers on a new update for the game that will release tomorrow as well.

The Joker gameplay highlights his different attacks and specials. Joker normally attacks with his small blade, while using his gun and grappling chain as specials. He can summon his Persona, Arsene, to fight with him. His Final Smash is All-Out Attack; Joker, along with his comrades from Persona 5, gangs up on his opponent and pummels them. All-Out Attack is based on a similar mechanic in Persona 5, where the playable protagonists can join forces to attack a foe.

There will also be some costume DLC for Mii fighters coming tomorrow. There is a set of Mii costumes based on the protagonists and mascots from passed Persona games. Another set of costumes are based on Sonic the Hedgehog characters, like Tails and Knuckles.

The update that will also be releasing tomorrow will incorporate several new modes. These new modes are Stage Builder, Video Editor, and Shared Content.

Stage Builder has been mode present in past Smash games but was weirdly absent in Ultimate at launch. Ultimate’s Stage Builder appears to be more refined than the simple Stage Builder modes from the past. You can move platforms in your stage in any direction you want, as well as having more tools and items to play around with. Stages can now have different layers, meaning players can have a front, middle, and back layer to include new objects.

Video Editor is a mode that will allow gamers to edit together saved footage of different matches. You can cut footage from one video, and splice together with another to form something new. You are given more elaborate editing tools, including adding new transitions or subtitles.

Shared Content is a mode that will allow players to share their own creation. You can share your stages and videos via this mode.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on the Nintendo Switch, and Joker will be made available on April 17. Joker can be purchased for 5.99 US dollars. He is also available in a Fighters Pass that includes five DLC characters in total. The Fighters Pass is 24.99 US dollars.
