DICE to End Support For Battlefield 1

EA and DICE have confirmed that they will be ending monthly support for its World War I shooter Battlefield 1 in June. It was made clear in a blog post from DICE that they will support the game until then and will include a new mode called Shock Operation.
The new Shock Operation mode, will be similar to the existing Operations mode that has become popular in Battlefield 1. The difference in Shock Operation is that all the action will take place on a single map and is ideal if you don’t have time for a full Operations match. It will still support 40 players as you either attack or defend sectors.
Shock Operations will be coming this summer and be available on the maps of Giant’s Shadow, Prise de Tahure, Lupkow Pass, Zeebrugge, and River Somme. While most of the maps are available to those who have the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or purchased through standalone expansions, base game owners will also be able to access them in Shock Operations.
DICE and EA are also bringing maps from They Shall Not Pass to Battlefield 1 players free of charge. The current map available now is Rupture, with more maps coming in May.
While it’s always nice to see free content come to a game, it’s bittersweet when a game gets support lifted from it. Battlefield 1 had a great run and with E3 just around the corner, one has to suspect that DICE and EA have big things in store for us. We’re guessing it’s going to be a new Battlefield game taking place during World War II.
