Rainbow Six Quarantine won’t be renamed Parasite, title only internal placeholder

Ubisoft uploads patch files that include new cover art and a familiar Siege character.

Update 2/16/21: It seems co-op FPS fans will need to wait a little longer for an official name replacement for Rainbow Six Quarantine, despite yesterday’s story of PlayStation Network files pointing to its new title, Rainbow Six Parasite.

“While we recently shared that we will be changing the name of Rainbow Six Quarantine, ‘Parasite’ is only a placeholder that our internal team uses,” a Ubisoft statement to PCGameN wrote. The publisher concluded the uploaded files were intended for internal testing, but will “share more details, including the official name, soon.”

Original story: After recently indicating that survival FPS Rainbow Six Quarantine needed a more suitable title amid this challenging time, Ubisoft has reportedly now chosen to rename the Siege spin-off Rainbow Six Parasite as new game art has been leaked.

As reported by MP1st, developer Ubisoft Montreal has uploaded files to PlayStation Network that already details its 1.01 launch patch, along with a PlayStation 4 dashboard image that bears the Rainbow Six Parasite name and popular Siege character Ela. Other images within the patch appear to reveal its cover art and controls for its PS Vita Remote Play feature.

The apparent new title is a fitting choice considering, in its E3 2019 reveal, the developer stated the game will “task teams of three Operators with stopping a deadly alien parasite from infecting human hosts before it’s too late.” Although the name is all but official, it remains unclear if the gameplay will be altered due to the pandemic.

Lastly, Ubisoft confirmed in its last quarterly earnings call that the spin-off is still planned to be released at some point in 2021, after initially being delayed because of COVID-19. With its first patch surfacing, fans will more likely hear about its release date and new title in the near future.

When Rainbow Six Parasite eventually does land on the market, it will be available for all current PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and PC.
