Twitch reveals new t-shirts, LGBTQ emotes for Pride Month

June is here, and that means it’s LGBTQ Pride Month. Commemorating the Stonewall riots that kicked off the gay rights movement in the United States, June traditionally hosts pride marches throughout major cities around the world, and Twitch is joining in on the fun with several LGBTQ-themed events, emotes, and more.
Twitch revealed its Pride Month plans in a blog post earlier today, and the celebration is perfect for both streamers and viewers alike. For one, Twitch is using the month to highlight one LGBTQ Twitch streamer every day. A promotional video called TwitchUnity also shows queer and transgender streamers talking about coming out and coming into their own through the site’s platform.
Twitch is also selling four “Cheer for Equality” t-shirts that feature several different LGBTQ flags, including the rainbow flag and the transgender flag. All profits from each sale go to the Human Rights Campaign, and Twitch is letting individual streamers run their own HRC fundraisers through Tiltify, with a free t-shirt given to streamers from both the LGBTQ activist organization and Twitch if they raise $500.
Meanwhile, Twitch also collaborated with the It Gets Better Project to create a video with the site’s staff members, with queer employees talking about everything from coming out to finding a community that knows what it’s like to be LGBTQ. The site even unveiled four new global emotes based on Twitch’s “Cheer for Equality” t-shirt designs, and the service also revealed a new rainbow flag Cheermote for Bits. Both emotes will remain on Twitch through June, too, unlike Facebook’s Pride reaction.
