Nintendo Switch is confirmed as the best selling console in the United States during June, beating both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This information was shared in the last few hours by the marketing research company, National Purchase Dairy Panel Inc., (NPD Group). It’s yet another achievement for the hybrid console.

As you might have guessed, the hardware segment saw a significant drop, with a 33 percent decline in spending and only bringing in $235 million. This is primarily because the current console generation is ending, following the announcement of Project Scarlett at June’s E3 2019. The announcement was the beginning of that process. Xbox’s latest quarter also suffered from that.

The Nintendo Switch was the only console growing year-on-year and was the best selling console in the United States both in terms of dollar and unit sales. There are no doubts it is this year’s best selling platform in that territory (via VG247).

Perhaps a bit more surprisingly, Super Mario Maker 2 was the best selling game in June. Despite the game releasing in the second half of the month, and competing against solid players, such as Activision’s Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.

It set a record for the Mario Maker franchise for what matters sales at launch and beat both the original on Wii U and its 3DS port under that perspective. While the above mentioned Crash Team Racing ended up being second in the chart of the best selling, it was followed by Mortal Kombat 11, which remains consistent following its initial release. Here is June 2019’s top ten as shared by NPD Group:

  1. Super Mario Maker 2
  2. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled
  3. Mortal Kombat 11
  4. GTA 5
  5. Minecraft
  6. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  7. Spider-Man
  8. NBA 2K19
  9. Mario Kart 8
  10. Days Gone
