Sony Interactive Entertainment Has A New President And CEO

Just two years ago, with Andrew House leaving his role, we were announced a new president and CEO for Sony Interactive Entertainment.
It was John Kodera, but it isn’t anymore, as the Japanese executive has been replaced by a brand new president and CEO: well known PlayStation exec Jim Ryan.
Kodera will take on Jim Ryan’s former role and dedicate his focus on creating “innovative user experiences and further enhancing the network area” becoming representative director and deputy president.
Ryan first joined Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe in 1994. In 2011 he was appointed Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe president, then he served as Sony Interactive Entertainment head of global sales and marketing since April 2016. He has been deputy president of the company since January 2018.
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to take on the role of President and CEO of SIE. I’ve seen the PlayStation business grow and change massively since the very early days, and I hope to be able to put that experience to good use in reinforcing the foundations of the Game & Network Services business, and in evolving the entertainment that PlayStation offers to its engaged and passionate community,” he commented.
“Working with John and the SIE team around the world, I am committed to strengthening relations with our business partners, and to continuing to provide the ultimate interactive entertainment experiences that make PlayStation the Best Place to Play.”
Ryan is also known for his positions about cross-play, something he even argued with Microsoft about in the early days of the feature, and about backwards compatibility.
That shouldn’t change anything for what matters PS5, though, as the console is most probably going for backwards compatibility anyway.
