Sony already has a number of acclaimed developers under their acquisition, such as Horizon: Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games, inFamous developer Sucker Punch Productions, and The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog. Now, Sony has added another beloved studio to their list.

Sony has recently acquired Insomniac Games, the studio known for games such as Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive, and last year’s Marvel’s Spider-Man. While Insomniac has worked closely with Sony to develop PlayStation games for their entire 20+ year history, starting with the PlayStation-exclusive series Spyro the Dragon in the 1990s, this official acquisition means that all of Insomniac’s games will be exclusive to PlayStation consoles moving forward.

In an official statement by Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price, he states, “The decision to join forces with Sony extends far beyond familiarity. Our studio vision is to create experiences that have a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives. As we look ahead to our future, we know that joining the WWS family gives us the best opportunities to fully achieve that vision on a much larger scale. Further, we believe that Sony shares a similar vision to positively impact players’ lives, their employees’ lives and the games industry at large.”

Insomniac has developed many games for several different consoles over the years, though some of their most popular series, including Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance, already have a history of being exclusive to PlayStation consoles. Hopefully, this acquisition will mean the continued development of quality titles for PlayStation consoles.
