NIS America surprised us today with an official localization of RPG Maker MV. The DIY game crafter will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and most excitingly of all the Nintendo Switch. The news came out of Los Angeles’ Anime Expo, and we can look for it in 2019.

The long-running RPG Maker series has been running since 1992, appearing on PC, PlayStation even Nintendo 3DS. More than just pet projects, games like Yume Nikkie and To the Moon have arguably eclipsed the toolset they came from in popularity.

RPG Maker MV will mark the first time it’s ever appeared on Nintendo Switch. It’ll feature a wide variety of assets, ranging from fantasy to high school setups as well as hundreds of various textures, monsters, character designs, and environments to help newcomers and veteran game creators weave their own stories.

The RPG Maker series is an innovative and simple way for aspiring game makers or even experienced developers to make their very own games needing to trudge around in code — aside from snippets from more difficult and nuanced custom mechanics.

The game will also include the free RPG Maker MV Player app, which allows players to download and enjoy others’ creations made within RPG Maker MV. The app is available without the game as well.

The game is aiming for a 2019 release.
