Red Dead Redemption 2’s Sales Won’t Top GTA V’s

Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 90 million units since the original launch and has even achieved the label of a top grossing entertainment product ever released. So it’ll be definitely hard for anything else coming in the future to be as good as it was and still is, in commercial terms.
This is the very same idea shared by Doug Creutz, an analyst at Cowen & Company, who believes that it could be as good as possible, but Red Dead Redemption 2 won’t manage to have the same impact in terms of sales.
“That’s not to say Rockstar won’t have other big hits. It may. But another ‘GTA V’ isn’t likely. Michael Jackson had a lot of hit albums but he only had one ‘Thriller,'” Creutz told Market Watch.
“That sounds like a pretty fair statement, and frankly, I don’t think anyone would disagree. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most highly anticipates games of the year, the sequel to a game that won countless Game of the Year awards in 2010, and there’s no doubt that it will sell a lot.”
While it is clear that selling 90 million units isn’t something you do every day and for every title in your portfolio and GTA V was hugely helped in that achievement by the multi-gen release, it remains to be seen what happens in terms of the amount of dollars RDR2 will be able to gross.
With rumors of a battle royale mode in it, we’ll need to see whether the game manages to intercept the latest trend in the industry and reach the likes of Fortnite as of popularity.
