Ubisoft has announced the departure of several core team members for its first-person strategic shooter, Rainbow Six Siege. Creative director Xavier Marquis, brand director Alexandre Remy, and a few undisclosed people have left the development team for Siege to “pursue other interests” within Ubisoft. Game director Leroy Athanassoff will take on the responsibility as their replacement into the new year.

“We are under the impression that we are transmitting a legacy to these people. We could not have hoped for a better outcome. I think it is awesome, and I am looking forward to being able to look at Rainbow with the eyes of a fan and nothing else,” states Remy in the video.

This departure will not see the entire core leave. The new team still has many veterans. Also, the two teams have been working together for the past few weeks to ensure a seamless transition. No further information has come out regarding what project the two have left to pursue.

“We will start expanding the game universe. If you look at player experience, we need to stop thinking about exclusive features and start implementing inclusive features instead. What I mean is that we need to deliver content that will impact every player and the whole community,” Athanassoff said.

Rainbow Six Siege released in December of 2015 and has a passionate fan base. The game hit 50 million players in September of 2019, and continues to have regular seasonal updates like the recent Shifting Tides Operation. Ubisoft plans on bringing the title to the next generation of consoles, in addition to the launch of PvE game Rainbow Six Quarantine on PlayStation 5.
