According to a new tech analysis from Digital Foundry, the release of PUBG for mobile devices is a serious hope for the battle royale game to be one day launched on Nintendo Switch alongside other current-gen platforms.

The launch of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for multiple platforms such as PlayStation 4 has been hinted multiple times at this point, even though Bluehole Games has an agreement in place with Microsoft which is probably spanning one or two years since December 2017 release.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Nintendo Switch Version

“The concept of a PUBG Switch port seemed highly unlikely based on the issues we’ve noted with the Xbox One and even X versions of the full-fat game, both of which seem to struggle with CPU-based limitations – an aspect that would only be amplified on Switch,” Digital Foundry noted in its analysis.

“What we’ve seen of PUBG on mobile is a bit of a game-changer though and presents a route to viability for a potential Switch conversion. At the very least it demonstrates that in handheld play, graphical reductions can have a positive impact on making the gameplay work on a smaller screen – something that would be crucial for Nintendo’s hardware.”

Considering how fast and big Nintendo Switch’s userbase is growing, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see a specific, custom version of PUBG coming to it sooner or later. It may come after PS4, but never say never…

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now available exclusively for PC and Xbox One.
