Prince Harry: Fornite Shouldn’t Be Allowed, It’s Created To Addict

Gaming is harmful; it is an addiction, harms the youngsters as it prompts violence and sexual content. Politicians have targetted the gaming industry with a statement like this and asked for a ban on games like Grand Theft Auto and others. Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has joined the list and has asked for a ban on Epic Games’ Fortnite, the most popular battle royale game at the moment.
Prince Harry’s comments came at a YMCA event in London, and he termed Fornite as a game “created to addict.”
“[Fortnite] shouldn’t be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household? It’s created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible. It’s like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down.”
In September 2018, World Health Organization added “Gaming Disorder” in the list of classified diseases and some of the symptoms listed down were “impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.”
It’s a bit harsh to single out Fortnite here, but it seems like the massive popularity of the game played a big part here (over 250 million registered players, a concurrent player record of 10.8 million), and Prince Harry used it to target the Battle Royale genre (or gaming industry).
