Atlus’ Persona series is still bringing in high sale figures a year after the game’s release in the U.S. Persona 5 has sold a collective 2.2 million units around the world since it first released in Japan in September 2016, a new report from Sega reveals.

During Sega’s “Road to 2020” presentation commemorating the end of 2017’s fiscal year, the company highlighted Persona 5 as one of several “packaged games” that sold well last year. Celebrating the game’s launch in both Europe and the U.S. in April 2017, Sega revealed Persona 5’s 2.2 million sales while also praising Sonic Mania, Sonic Forces, and Total War: Warhammer for performing “strongly.”

Persona 5 follows Joker, a high school student sent to Tokyo’s Shujin Academy after being falsely accused for assault. While in Tokyo, Joker soon awakens his Persona, and he helps lead his fellow friends, dubbed the Phantom Thieves, through a physical recreation of criminals and ne’er-do-wells’ minds in order to change their hearts for the better.

Like previous Persona releases, Persona 5’s gameplay focuses partially on RPG dungeon-crawling combat alongside a social simulation where players can bond with their friends and love interests in exchange for in-game perks. In many ways, Persona 5’s combat and turn-based combat gameplay borrows elements from its parent series, Shin Megami Tensei, including some of the series’ demons (or “shadows”).

Persona 5 was previously recognized as the best-selling game in the Persona series history after it reached two million sales last November. It’s unclear what Atlus has planned for Persona next, but in the meantime, Shin Megami Tensei V is currently in development for Nintendo Switch.
