Ahead of the launch of the update Next, No Man’s Sky creator Sean Murray issued an open letter where he discussed the past, the present and the future of the game, looking back at the things he would now do differently.

Murray has admitted he’s done mistakes in the way he’s handled communication and community back in the days of the release of the main game, but also said he’s proud of how the team reacted and focused on developing new stuff rather than simply talking with the press.

“Whilst I couldn’t be prouder of the team, I personally made mistakes. I could talk all day about things I personally would change. Certainly one regret is that the intensity and drama of launch left no room for communication with the community,” Murray said.

“We decided instead to focus on development rather than words. Following Foundation, Pathfinder and Atlas Rises, we really want to include you, the community, more.”

To be honest, I am among the players who enjoyed the game since the very beginning, although acknowledging that it could be so much more and that Hello Games didn’t keep all the promises it had done before launch.

Now it feels great to see how it is evolving and all the things it’ll be able to do with further polishing and updating. Hopefully, Murray has learned some lessons from this experience and won’t repeat those mistakes again.
