After clamoring from fans, Nathan Fillion has finally taken on the role of Uncharted’s Nathan Drake. Albeit not officially. A new 15-minute fan film featuring Fillion as the world-famous adventurer has surfaced online.

In it, Fillion takes on the wise-cracking Drake, with plenty of Easter eggs, historical references, and action movie fanfare as Drake and Sully try to plunder some mysterious foe of their treasures. Like many fan films it is made in some rich guy’s house, but it also features high production values.

The short film debuted today following a less-than-cryptic tease from Fillion himself on July 11, where the Firefly star took to Instagram to post an image of the rapper Drake captioned with “Sic Parvis Magna.” The phrase is Sir Francis Drake’s motto, which means “greatness from small beginnings.”

It may seem odd to round up so many resources for a fan film, but shorts like this have proved productive in the past. In 2010, director Kevin Tancharoen made a Mortal Kombat fan film with Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade. The film led to a deal with Warner Bros. for Mortal Kombat: Legacy, a web series extending the world of the short.

With a theatrical adaptation of Uncharted supposedly en route already (with the bizarre casting choice of Tom Holland as young Drake), it’s unlikely this short will prompt Sony to make the same move as Warner Bros. Make sure to check it out before Sony feels compelled to yank it down.
