Mortal Kombat Original Trilogy Remasters Were Once In Development, Now Cancelled

A remastered trilogy of the first three Mortal Kombat games were once in development at some point, but now the remasters have been canceled.
The first Mortal Kombat game was released back in 1992 and received widespread attention due to its graphic contents. The first sequel, Mortal Kombat II, proved to be just as big of a hit. While the initial release of Mortal Kombat 3 had detractors, by the time Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 rolled out the third installment in the franchise proved to be just as popular as the first two.
The first three games of the MK series are generally accepted as the most popular in the franchise.
Rumors were going around in the last few years that remastered versions of the first Mortal Kombat games are being developed, though nothing was ever concrete.
Blind Squirrel Games is a video game development studio that was rumored to have been working on the Mortal Kombat remasters. Danny Huynh, Concept Artist and UI Artist for Blind Squirrel, would later confirm that the studio was at one point working on the Mortal Kombat remasters.
Simply called Mortal Kombat Remastered, Huynh shared screenshots of the project on their Art Station Page. Base on the screenshots, the remasters were at one point going to be called Mortal Kombat Kollection Online, suggesting that players would have been able to play those classic MK games online.
Huynh has confirmed that the remaster has been canceled and that there was going to be a new mode called Krypt Mode. The Krypt Mode, according to Huynh, is meant to give gamers a new way to play the original trilogy.
Huynh’s screenshots have since been removed on their Art Station Page, but have since been saved on DSO Gaming.
The news of a canceled Mortal Kombat remaster comes nearly a week before the release of the upcoming Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat 11 is expected to be released on April 23.
