Over the last few days, Minecraft fans have been slightly disappointed at hearing that the Super Duper Graphics pack had been canceled due to tech issues that made it unstable for the plethora of platforms where the game is available.

It looks like there’s something even more significant in the making at Mojang, as the title is introducing a brand new engine for all the versions compatible with the Bedrock platforms and even ray tracing on those platforms that are powerful enough to sustain it. It won’t work on the Java release.

The new game engine is called Render Dragon, which features “edge highlighting and new lighting techniques, which is just the start of the visual and performance upgrades we’re planning to make” in the future.

“Render Dragon supports a range of graphics features, depending on what your device is capable of,” reads a note posted on the official website of the game. “Not all devices will support ray tracing, but we will have some graphics enhancements on most devices.”

The ray-tracing support will be one of the newest things to come in Minecraft but, as you can see, improvements will be all over the place for the entire stable of platforms. RTX will be “playable on Windows 10 with devices that are capable of DirectX R, such as with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU (and we plan to expand it to future platforms that support DirectX R raytracing). “

So, is your PC ready to support ray tracing? If not, in any case, prettier graphics and more features are on their way for Minecraft, so don’t miss all the updates from Mojang.
