Mario Kart Tour won’t cost anything to start

Mario Kart Tour is Nintendo’s latest mobile game venture. It was a bit of a surprising revelation from the company, especially since we just got Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp this year.
Mario Kart Tour is planned from DeNA and Nintendo for mobile devices ahead of March 2019, and it looks like one important new detail has emerged that slates the title as another “free-to-start” game, much like Super Mario Run before it.
This is the first official detail we’ve learned about the game, revealed via The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, who spoke to the CEO of DeNA himself Isao Moriyasu to confirm. Of course, this doesn’t tell us a whole lot about the game itself or what exactly will be available in terms of paid content. But it does give us an idea of what to expect.
Previously, Super Mario Run followed a similar model, where the first world was available to play and complete for free. But if you wanted to play the rest of the game, you could pay a one-time fee to unlock the rest. Hopefully, in this situation there aren’t charges for additional cars, characters, and other content in the game, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the details that matter. This is certainly an interesting start, however.
We’ll have to keep being patient and rev our engines a little longer before Nintendo sees fit to share more with us.
