Klei’s Griftlands debuted at today’s PC Gaming Show E3 conference with a look at its card-battling gameplay. From the looks of it, Griftlands will be a much more narrative-heavy experience than most other card games out now, complete with cutscenes that develop its story and dialogue with friends and foes in the midst of battle. The world of Griftlands is also portrayed in Klei’s signature comic book-inspired graphical style.

In between card battles, your character will even get the chance to engage NPCs like traders and bartenders to buy and sell goods, and learn rumors from them.

From the looks of it, you’ll also be building a custom character in some form or another. During a dialogue scene shown off in screenshots of the game, you can see tags like [Bartender] and [Intelligence] appearing next to some dialogue options. That seems to suggest that you’ll be deciding on a background for your character and building up various stats that may help them both in battle and in story scenes.

The game’s website doesn’t shine too much more light on the game. Along with some screenshots and the game’s reveal trailer from 2017, the website only offers a brief description of how Griftlands will play:

Griftlands is an RPG where everything is negotiable: money, loyalty—even morality. Choose your character and make your fortune.

There’s no set release date revealed for Griftlands yet, but according to the trailer, an alpha for the game will be available on the Epic Games Store starting July 11. We’ll keep you updated when we learn more about Griftlands.
