Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is the new augmented reality game from Niantic, the developers of Pokemon GO. The game takes place in the expansive, and much loved Harry Potter universe. It’s available right now in America for both Android and iOS. The game was due to begin its worldwide release tomorrow, but it seems Niantic wanted to kick things off a little quicker than that.

As such, if you’re in the US, you have the opportunity to download the game Apple Store or Google Play Store. Much like Pokemon GO, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite works on a game map using the real world as a map.

A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing artefacts, creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these “Foundables,” and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes.

Your journey begins as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the purpose of investigating and containing The Calamity.

Players are going to explore the world trying to locate foundables, magical items that can show up at real-world locations such as parks, banks, colleges, libraries, and landmarks. You will also be able to learn and cast spells, make potions, and interact with magical creatures from the world of Harry Potter. You’re also going to fight some of the scarier threats you’ll be familiar with from the books and movies.

The game launched in Australia and New Zealand in May of this year as often happens in the mobile space. If you are not in the United States, keep a close eye on your app stores, because these types of rollouts tend to keep going, with the game arriving in more and more regions as the day goes on.
