As if it wasn't already taking over the industry.

The surprising rise in popularity of Chinese free-to-play RPG Genshin Impact doesn’t appear to drop off anytime soon and its newly-revealed plans for the future ensures that. Even though it was released at the end of a console generation, its developer, MiHoYo, has recently asserted that the game will eventually become a PlayStation 5 title.

“We already have plans for Genshin Impact on next-gen consoles,” a MiHoYo spokesman told IGN Japan. They also went on to state that an Xbox version isn’t in the cards, presumably meaning that only PS5 owners will enjoy the next-gen splendors of the eastern smash hit.

This doesn’t mean the game will simply be ported over. “We are also in discussion over future visual improvements as well,” they continued. MiHoYo hasn’t given a particular release date for this PS5 iteration, but says it will keep fans updated in the future on its development.

The news doesn’t come as much of a shock, as the game has seen over 17 million downloads and $60 million in revenue, at least, on mobile. Aside from next-gen, PlayStation 4 owners should already expect new content soon, as MiHoYo has revealed more playable characters and a third city are currently in development.
