There’s no stopping the power of Slime on Switch.
It’s only been out for a few days, but Square Enix’s Dragon Quest XI: Definitive Edition is already taking over the world.
Months after it released for PC, the game came out for Nintendo Switch last week, complete with a new retro mode that lets players enjoy it in a classic old-school style. And that seemed to be enough of a draw to make the game the number one seller last week, based on Japanese sales numbers.
The game managed to sell over 303,000 copies in its debut, which is a huge number for the series. That puts the game in the running for one of the best game launches in Japan for the year. And, on top of that, it pushed sales for Dragon Quest XI in all over four million, between physical and digital releases!
Here’s how the top ten fares in general for the week:
- Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition– 303,204
- Code Vein (PlayStation 4)- 60,843
- Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout (PlayStation 4)- 53,428
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Nintendo Switch)- 45,775
- Y’s IX: Monstrum Nox (PlayStation 4)- 45,378
- FIFA 20 (PlayStation 4)- 43, 751
- World War Z (PlayStation 4)- 27,872
- Monster Hunter: World Iceborne Master Edition (PlayStation 4)- 26,324
- Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout (Nintendo Switch)- 25,538
- Super Mario Maker 2 (Nintendo Switch)- 14,731
Dragon Quest XI also helped push Nintendo Switch sales to new heights for the week. The base model sold just over 115,000 units in the past week, pushing overall sales to 9.1 million for the region. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch Lite is also doing well, with over 80,000 units sold, and 258,000 systems out the door since launch.
This should lead to a very strong holiday season for the Switch and its games. The only real question here is how much they’ll take off once the new Pokémon games arrive next month.
Meanwhile, congrats to Square Enix and Nintendo on a successful launch! We’ll let you know when worldwide sales numbers for the game become available!
