Cyberpunk 2077 runs “surprisingly good” on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, according to CD Projekt Red’s President.
Speaking during the company’s latest financial earnings call, per Seeking Alpha, Adam Kicinski — who also holds the CEO position at CD Projekt Red — revealed that the upcoming RPG’s performance on PS4 and Xbox One was “very good,” despite the power of their hardware compared to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Cyberpunk 2077’s release date is only two weeks away, but some fans had begun to develop concerns about how the massive open-world title would run on PS4 and Xbox One. Gamers have been treated to Cyberpunk 2077 running on Series X, PlayStation 5, and PS4 Pro consoles over the past week, but footage has not been forthcoming on other console platforms.
However, Kicinski has moved to allay fears about Cyberpunk 2077’s performance on older hardware and revealed that, while it isn’t as impressive on PS4 and Xbox One, the game still runs smoothly.
“We believe that the game is performing great on every platform,” Kicinski said. “Of course, accordingly to platform capabilities, but not every platform should be great. Yesterday, we released the gameplay both on PS4 (Pro) and PS5. So, you can see the difference. And on both — I mean, PS5 is great. PS4 is still very good. I mean, we had those extra three weeks and we achieved a lot by — within this final stretch. The game has been not presented on basic, not pro console PS4 and Xbox One so far. Of course, (it’s) a bit lower than on Pros, but surprisingly good, I would say for such a huge world. So, a bit lower, but very good.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed three weeks due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a tweet published on October 27, CD Projekt Red apologized for pushing the game’s release date back again after originally delaying it from March. The company stated that the game “evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way” and that more time was needed to ensure all PC and console ports ran smoothly ahead of launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on December 10.
